MATT MANSFIELD PARTNER

Matt Mansfield is the co-director of the Medill School of Journalism's Washington program.
As an associate professor at Northwestern University, he is particularly interested in how multimedia and data-rich storytelling can play a greater role in public policy reporting.

Mansfield had been the Deputy Managing Editor of the San Jose Mercury News, where he oversaw all visual journalism at the paper, as well as the state, national and foreign reporting staffs.

At the Merc, he earned a reputation as one of the leading visual journalists in the United States, and has won more than 100 awards from the Society for News Design.

Under his guidance, the Mercury News' photo staff was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for its coverage of the California recall election. And the multimedia staff was awarded an Emmy for documentary coverage.

The Mercury News was also honored with SND's World Best-Designed Newspaper award, the highest honor bestowed in newspaper design.

Mansfield will be president of the Society for News Design in 2009, and also serves as chairman of the SND Foundation.

SCOTT GOLDMAN PARTNER

Scott Goldman is the Senior Editor for Visuals at The Indianapolis Star. He joined the Star in 2004, after spending five years as Assistant Sports Editor for design at The Washington Post.

Goldman served as president of the Society for News Design, and regularly contributes to the Society's publications. He has won more than 25 SND awards in his career, including Gold and Silver medals, and has played a key role in SND's annual competition for the past 18 years.

Goldman and his wife, Debbie, have three children, Drew, Ryan and Mandi.

DENISE M. REAGAN

Denise Reagan has been making connections between words and visuals since she entered the news design field 20 years ago.

After graduating from the University of Florida in Gainesville, she has designed and art directed pages at The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Ind.; the Detroit Free Press; the Star Tribune in Minneapolis; the Savannah Morning News; the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and The Times-Union in Jacksonville, Fla.

As the Society for News Design's Education and Training Director, she stresses the use of non-traditional story forms and high utility for members. She also helped revitalize the Quick Course curriculum to train more in multimedia and online design.

She has been a judge for SND's creative competition as well as a judge of the SND.ies, the society's Web design contest. She offers training at quick courses, the Poynter Institute and other journalism gatherings on all areas of visual journalism.

Since the birth of her daughter, Reagan, she has spent more time working as a consultant with MG Redesign, as well as in her job as Assistant Managing Editor at The Times-Union.

KEVIN WENDT

Kevin Wendt recently was named Executive Editor of The Huntsville (Ala.) Times. He oversees all newsroom operations.

Wendt is an expert at newsroom management and coaching, as well as leadership training. Those are his areas of expertise for MG.

Wendt had been an Assistant Managing Editor for the San Jose Mercury News, overseeing the copy desks, design, and sports reporting.

In his eight years at the Mercury News, Wendt's work was routinely honored by the Society for News Design, including several Gold and Silver medals. He has visited and coached in several newsrooms, and also taught an editing class at Santa Clara University.

Wendt is known for his ability to insert himself into meetings he wasn't invited to in the first place, and his constant desire to make pages bigger and more energetic. He is loud. He is full of ideas. He loves getting cool work into print.

JON WILE

Jon Wile is a sports kid at heart, but a print designer by trade. He works for The Washington Post and designs the front page five days a week for one of the nation's most-influential papers.

Wile joined The Post sports department just over three years ago as the team's No. 5 designer. He quickly ascended to Lead Sports Designer, before taking his current role on the News Desk.

He thrives on taking risks and working with visually challenged journalists. A constant team player, his work ethic can be matched by very few in this business.

Before coming to Washington, Wile worked for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland and interned at the Detroit Free Press. His work has been recognized by the Society for News Design and Print Magazine. He also has taught newspaper design at the University of Maryland.

In his down time he enjoys playing golf and rooting for his Buckeyes.
